FEYENOORD DIRECTOR CONFIRMS INTEREST IN SIGNING BRYAN GIL

Last week we brought you news that Eredivisie side Feyenoord was interested in signing Bryan Gil. Now the same outlet that first reported the interest is more or less confirming it.

Dutch outlet 1908.nl has quotes from Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese that just comes out and says it — we’re interested in the guy, and we think he’d be an asset at the club.

“It’s been the case for several windows that we’ve been in the race for Gil.

“We’re again looking at what is possible. We offer a fantastic stage to give players a nice continuation of their careers, or to revitalize them. Gil is a good player, but there are many other clubs that are also looking at him.”

I said this before, but the Eredivisie does feel like a league where Gil could get his career back on track. It’s less physical, but still a highly technical and offensive-minded league, and doesn’t that kind of describe Bryan Gil pretty well? Arne Slot, who was once in contention for the Tottenham Hotspur job before Ange Postecoglou took over, prioritizes use of wingers in his tactical system, and it does feel like Bryan could find a place there.

The big knock on Gil has always been his slim stature in what is an incredibly physical Premier League, but despite a lot of industry in the times we’ve seen him on the pitch he’s rarely had much of an impact. Maybe he’d do better in The Netherlands... at least I’d like to hope so.

Gil turned down approaches and offers from other clubs this summer because he wanted to prove himself at Tottenham. That clearly hasn’t worked. The article doesn’t say what kind of fee Spurs might demand for Bryan, but I can’t imagine it’d be prohibitive. It’s best for all parties that he leaves, and hopefully Bryan agrees.
